Abstract: Six problem formulations exist in multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA): choice, sorting, ranking, description, elimination and design problems. The Analytic Hierachy Process (AHP) is a useful and widespread method for solving choice and ranking problems. However, it is not adapted for sorting problems. Moreover, another practical limitation of AHP is that a high number of alternatives imply a large number of comparisons. Therefore AHPSort has been created in 2012. This talk present briefly AHPSort and its multiples evolution until today.

Alessio Ishizaka is Distinguished professor at Neoma Business school (France). He was Head of the Information Systems, Supply Chain and Decision-Making department. He was also research lead and Deputy Director of the Centre of Operational Research and Logistics at the University of Portsmouth (UK). Alessio received his PhD from the University of Basel (Switzerland). He worked successively for the University of Exeter (UK), University of York (UK) and Audencia Grande Ecole de Management Nantes (France). He has been visiting professor in several universities in Italy, France, Germany and Japan. His research is in the area of decision analysis, where he has published more than 160 papers. He is regularly involved in large European funded projects. He has been the chair, co-organiser and keynote speaker of several conferences on this topic, especially the international conference in MCDM 2022. He is associate editor for Expert Systems with Applications, International Transactions in Operational Research and Journal of Knowledge Management. He wrote the indispensable textbooks “Multicriteria Decision Analysis: methods and software” and “Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Sorting Methods”

Abstract: Recent advances in digital technologies have reshaped transportation procurement in supply chain management, enabling the increasing use of auction-based mechanisms. This talk will investigate the use of combinatorial auctions as an optimization framework for shared economy logistics systems. The study develops mathematical optimization models to efficiently allocate logistics resources such as vehicles, delivery tasks, and routes among multiple participants. To address the computational complexity of combinatorial bidding and winner determination, specialized solution techniques and algorithms are discussed. The models aim to improve coordination, cost efficiency, and resource utilization within collaborative logistics networks. The approach is particularly relevant for emerging shared logistics platforms where multiple service providers and users interact and compete dynamically. Potential applications include last-mile delivery, crowdshipping, and collaborative freight transportation.

Chefi Triki is a Senior Lecturer in Operations Research and Logistics Systems at the University of Kent (UK). He holds a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering and Informatics from the University of Calabria (Italy). His main research interests focus on optimization, particularly in the areas of logistics and resource management. He has a strong background in developing optimization tools for network design, with applications in transportation procurement, freight distribution, waste collection, groundwater management, and tourism planning. He has published extensively in leading scientific journals and has served as a keynote speaker at numerous international conferences. His research portfolio also includes several successfully led research grants in Italy, Oman, Qatar, and the UK. Throughout his career, he has received multiple awards and recognitions for excellence in teaching, research, and academic service.

The session explores how technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) are reshaping urban environments by enabling real-time data collection, analysis, and responsive decision-making. It highlights how these technologies can enhance efficiency, optimize resource management, and improve the overall quality of life for citizens.
Through a comparison between cities today and cities of the future, the presentation demonstrates how integrated systems across housing, mobility, energy, public spaces, and governance can create more sustainable, resilient, and human-centered urban environments.
Ultimately, the session aims to provide both strategic insights and practical perspectives on how cities can transition toward smarter, more livable, and future-ready models.
